Me and My Dad and The National Press Club
Last week I got to do something I never would have imagined doing – I signed the book at the National Press Club. A tradition dating back decades, every speaker at the NPC in Washington, D.C. signs the book. But as much of an honor as it was to write my name down along a collection of signatures that included John F. Kennedy, the greatest honor that day was sharing the stage with my dad.
I’ve listened to him for decades. I know the when, why and how of the Chick-fil-A story inside and out, but it never fails that every time I hear my dad speak, he shares an idea that hits me in a new way.
This time, it was a truth that’s helped him bring Chick-fil-A to its 42nd straight year of record sales. It was simple. It was honest and it was perfect dad:
‘I had the privilege of growing up in poverty,’ he said. ‘The blessing is you have to work for a living.’
In a down economy or an up economy, that’s the kind of wisdom that always holds true.

It certainly is – it must have been incredible to have been raised by such a steadfast and wise man!
And what an honor to have spoken at the NPC…congrats to you!
